The Unanswered - Life's real question.
Imagine fate leads you to a lady who is just the girl you would like to spend the rest of your life with. All days of your life can't equal those few moments with her, you wonder. Of all the discoveries man has ever made, finding the right match still appears to be the elusive one and you find yourself at the top of the world having found ONE . Doubly fortunate as you are, you find the girl sharing the same feeling with you. Everything looks beautiful except one: that you are a hindu and she is a Christian. Your Mom has never missed the "suprabad" every morning in her last 50 years. She is a devoted wife to her husband,a meticulous home maker and has dedicated her life in ensuring you get the best coffee , nice food and all the comforts that they can afford. You are not such a bad man at all. You know how sincerely you respect your dad who is your role model and deeply you cherish your Mom's love without which you would have succumed to this "lonely" world. and for God sake, you know you are gonna risk her life by letting her know you are gonna marry a Christian girl. Most handsome, open-minded guys like you find yourself in this situation in a "still orthodox" country like India.
You have 2 responsibiliies conflicting each other.
1. Responsibility as a son : You now realize how heart breaking it is for your family to know you are willing to forgo them and choose to take care of yourself with a nice girl of your choice
2. Promised life : Life is short. Your Mom and dad have lived theirs. Now, it's your turn to live it. You wanna live "your" life and not the one that your parents think will suit you.You are man enough to make a tough choice and moreover, it's also your responsibility to give your girl what you promised her.You are not gonna spend years with her and turn your back to her with your wet eyes like a mamma's boy. are you?
Well few consider the second one to be more attractive as that truly instigates the feel of a "hero". But, a reasonable man will struggle to make a choice. What consequences your choice leaves on society is a totally another matter. By making one of these choices, you are taking part on shaping a society in one way or the other:
1. If you choose love: If you marry a Christian and if your brother a Muslim and likewise the whole community finds their "match" in people of other religions, in another 50 years there will be no such thing called "different" religion. Of all peace making ideologies aimed at creating unity, inter-religion marriages seems to be the most effective one
Forget society, remember you knew the girl is a Christian even before you actually started talking to her?. So, if you fell in love with her, were'nt you already convinced in sacrificing everything for her?. even your family - because you know they won't even welcome you in heaven for what you have done on earth by choosing her?
2.If you choose " family": Sometimes, it looks good to see diversity. It adds color and there is no reason to kill it. Why would you even allow yourself be consumed in a "love" that you know might someday bite your parent's peace?. Are'nt you just using the ones who have given up everything just to see that smile in your face?. The "selfless" love of your Mom probably is far more intensified than your divine attraction to your girl .You want her to face the wreck of that relationship because you can't afford to cause a wreck on the relationship you share with a girl you met last year?
It's amazing to see how many lives feel the impact because of the tiny choices we make. Hitler's mom was at a hospital for abortion and in the last minute changed her mind. We know the consequence of this "tiny" choice of one single pregnent lady . Probably, millions would have been saved and world wars avoided, had the woman been steadfast in her "choice".
Many million years have gone by and still making the right choice seems to be the most difficult one . There is no right or wrong answer to this. It's just what you are willing to give up to keep the other. You picked up a double-edged sword and whatever end you choose, you are sure a victim of your own !
